Moscow is to host a peace conference on Afghanistan


Russian news agencies report on the peace conference on Afghanistan in Moscow scheduled for March 18, which plans have been confirmed by the Russian Foreign Ministry. According to REGNUM, President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani and Chairman of the Afghanistan High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah have been invited to the conference. This was announced on March 9 by spokesman of the Council Freidun Hwazun, who added that invitations to the event were received by representatives of other states, as well as the Taliban. Spokesman of the Movement’s Political Bureau in Qatar Mohammed Naim, confirmed to RIA Novosti on Tuesday that he had received an invitation to the conference and announced his intention to study this issue. RIA Novosti was acknowledged of receiving an invitation from the Russian party by the Afghanistan High Council for National Reconciliation. Its Chairman Abdullah Abdullah is discussing participation in the conference, the Council informed. As is known, on September 12, 2020, peace talks between the Afghan Government and the Taliban started in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Neutral Turkmenistan, Afghanistan’s closest neighbor, which had an experience in organizing intra-Afghan negotiations in the past, also expressed its readiness to contribute to intra-Afghan settlement.
