International Women’s Day 2021 theme: women lead the fight against COVID-19

The theme for International Women’s Day on March 8, 2021 is “Women in Leadership Positions: Achieving an Equal Future in the COVID-19 World”, the UN reported. The theme focuses on the tremendous efforts of women and girls around the world to shape a more equitable future and recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. Women are at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 as health professionals, researchers, community organizers, and exemplary and effective leaders in the fight against the pandemic. The crisis has amply demonstrated both the importance of their contribution and the disproportionately heavy burden that women bear. International Women’s Day gives us an opportunity to think about the successes achieved, call for change and celebrate the acts of courage and determination showed by ordinary women who have played an exceptional role in the history of their countries and communities, the UN press service reports. International Women’s Day on March 8 was officially approved by the UN in 1977. It is celebrated in many countries, and in some states this day is a public holiday, including Turkmenistan.
