Heads of CIS Police Departments agreed on combating crime


The issues to combat crime in the CIS space were discussed at a meeting of CIS Council of Internal Affairs Ministers held in Baku. Heads of interior affairs ministries of the CIS countries, representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and Office for Coordination of the fight against organized crime and other dangerous types of crimes on the territory of CIS, as well as International Criminal Police Organization – Interpol, the UN’s Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for Combating Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs attended the event. It was noted at the meeting that the implementation of interstate programs to combat crime, joint operational and preventive measures and special operations have yielded positive results. Participants of the meeting paid special attention to the exchange of information regarding persons participating in armed conflicts as part of international terrorist organizations in the territories of third countries. For a qualitative improvement of this work, the heads of the ministries of interior affairs of the CIS countries decided to establish an information exchange system between the security agencies of the CIS countries. Also at the meeting, the Regulation of coordinated actions of the CIS internal affairs bodies to counter new types of crimes committed in the territory of the Commonwealth countries in the field of modern information technologies was approved. It was noted that to disclosure such crimes it is necessary to train employees of the appropriate qualifications. In this regard, the meeting participants supported the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia to endow the Moscow University of the Ministry of the Interior of Russia named after V.Ya. Kikotia the status of the basic organization of the CIS states in training personnel in the field of combating crimes committed using information technology. At the meeting, it was stressed that the university has necessary educational and material resources, scientific potential and an experienced professional and teaching staff. It was agreed that the next meeting of the CIS Council of Internal Affairs Ministers will be held in Uzbekistan in 2019.
