The capital of Turkmenistan celebrated the International Day of the Amu Darya River. Events dedicated to this date were held on September 4 at the Museum of Fine Arts. The celebration brought together hundreds of people and became a platform for drawing attention to the issues of rational use of water resources and environmental education.

At the beginning of the program, the participants presented the flash mob "Amu Darya", which was attended not only by children, but also by adults: scientists, artists, actors, bloggers and entrepreneurs. The action emphasized the universal significance of the river as a source of life, inspiration and unity for the peoples of Central Asia.

The holiday was organized within the framework of the regional project "Water Resources Management in Central Asia Taking into Account Climate Impact", which is being implemented with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. In Turkmenistan, the project is being implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) together with the State Water Management Committee of Turkmenistan.

In the run-up to the holiday, competitions of drawings, photographs and crafts made from recycled materials were organized, in which more than 200 children, teenagers and young people took part. In total, over 500 works were submitted to the competitions, reflecting the theme of water, nature and the Amu Darya. The best of them were presented at the exhibition, and the authors received memorable gifts.

Particular attention was paid to practical master classes aimed at raising the environmental culture of the population. In Ashgabat, classes were held on painting fabric bags, ceramic plates, as well as clay modeling, in which various social groups took part, including pensioners and people with disabilities.

The celebration of International Amu Darya River Day in Ashgabat demonstrated broad public participation and confirmed the importance of joint international efforts to preserve water resources in Central Asia in the context of climate change.
