UNICEF Deputy Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Philippe Corey arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit to launch the regional partnership platform for nutrition in Central Asia and the Caucasus. At the presentation in Ashgabat, organized by the Government of Turkmenistan with the assistance of UNICEF, WHO, WFP and FAO, the recently appointed Philipp Cory suggested that the governments of the Central Asian and Caucasus countries determine the priorities of food systems and sustainable food supply that contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. "Malnutrition, obesity, stunting, and other nutritional problems require more control, management, evidence and funding," Corey said. This important regional initiative will promote the development of international partnership in nutrition, the exchange of best practices and experiences, the development of coordinated policy approaches to nutrition and their consequences. In Turkmenistan, Corey plans to meet with a number of officials to discuss the launch of the regional platform. Providing the population with sufficient nutrition to maintain health and well-being is one of the central aspects of the Agenda and the Goals of Sustainable Development until 2030, to which Turkmenistan officially joined in 2016. Thanks to the continuous growth of the economy, such phenomena as hunger and malnutrition are practically not found in the countries of Europe and Central Asia. The launch of the regional nutrition platform proposed by Philippe Cory aims to ensure policy coherence and coordination among all sectors concerned with nutrition, and to strengthen governance and accountability mechanisms in the field of nutrition.Altyn ASHIROVA
