United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has sent a letter to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressing deep appreciation for the organization and successful holding of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC). The event took place in Avaza from 5 to 8 August 2025.

In his message, Guterres highlighted Turkmenistan's leadership and long-standing commitment to peace and multilateral dialogue, which he said created an ideal framework for hosting such a large-scale event. The Secretary-General praised the role of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in bringing together participants from around the world – heads of state, civil society representatives, youth and the media – around a common agenda.

"This event played an important role in aligning national actions, regional cooperation and global policy frameworks to enable landlocked developing countries to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth, while strengthening their resilience to future shocks," the letter said.

The key outcome of the conference was the adoption of the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Action Program. Guterres described these documents as an ambitious plan for the next decade, closely aligned with the Pact for the Future and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In closing, António Guterres expressed warm appreciation to the President and the people of Turkmenistan for their warm welcome and looked forward to working closely to fully and effectively implement the Avaza Action Program.
