Every year on July 21st workers of healthcare and medical industry of Turkmenistan celebrate their professional holiday. Their achievements are presented at an annual industry forum, timed to this day, which is held in Ashgabat at the international level, where they demonstrate the results of the modernization of the material and technical base, the successes in the development of medical science and practice through the example of specific institutions. On the eve of the Day of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, ORIENT visited Health House No. 10 in Ashgabat, a polyclinic in one of the most densely populated areas of the capital, and learned what modern technologies and services are available to residents today. First we visited the office of functional diagnostics. The hostess of the office, Gulshat Nazarova, gave us a short excursion and told us what her job is: - Functional diagnostician conducts complex examination of the patient. With the help of special equipment, we study the condition of internal organs and systems to identify or, conversely, eliminate violations in their work. The cabinet is equipped with the latest technology - an electroencephalograph and a Schwarzer polysomnograph, a RheoScreen research complex and an Osteospace ultrasonic osteodensitometer.Altyn Ashirova
The next cabinet on our way was the fluoroscopy room. Radiologist Batyr Bayramov explained to us how everything is arranged here:
- We have a remotely controlled digital X-ray device Siemens AXIOM ICONOS R200, one of the best in its category. It can make images in very high quality. Its main advantages: low radiation load and the possibility of full X-ray diagnosis from head to foot. At it, diagnostics, including fluoroscopy, radiography and tomography, can be performed in bedridden patients without discomfort.
In the office of endoscopy, doctor Meret Yegenov acquainted us with the high-quality fibrogastroduodenoscopic system Karl Storz.
- This device allows us to investigate the hollow organs of the gastrointestinal tract. It is equipped with a video camera, the image is displayed on the monitor, and it can be viewed collectively. The apparatus also has a biopsy channel, which allows us to enter into it the instruments and carry out not only a diagnostic study, but also therapeutic manipulations up to the removal of foreign bodies.
Ophthalmologist Aina Rasulova was just taking another patient, and we could see the work of the diagnostic equipment in practice:
- This is an EM-3000 endothelial microscope and Tomey's RT-7000 auto-refractometer that is designed to measure the thickness and curvature of the cornea; as well as determining interpupillary distance, corneal and pupil diameters, and many other studies. Thanks to them, we can determine whether there is a risk of occurrence of hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism, even when the disease is just starting to develop. This is extremely important for pediatric ophthalmology.
Of course, this is not a complete list of medical services presented today to Turkmen citizens in polyclinics, which are the primary link in the health care system. To mention them all, you need a very voluminous publication describing the mass of procedures and devices, sometimes unique.
Also, the system of electronic medical cards is actively used in the country. Their advantage over paper has already been appreciated by both doctors and patients. Instead of carrying a volume folder with extracts, results of analyzes and conclusions from the cabinet to the office, it is enough to log in to the system in the registry. Further from the registry, the patient's data are sent to the computer of the doctor to which he came. And the doctor already prescribes directions in the electronic map for additional studies, anamnesis, opens and closes hospital sheets.
Of course, the technical update of medical institutions is accompanied by the improvement of the system of training of medical personnel. Medical specialists regularly attend refresher courses, both on the basis of public medical schools and abroad. Also, the development of the healthcare system in Turkmenistan is facilitated by an established exchange of experience with representatives of medicine from Europe, China, Japan and Russia.
