On August 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held meetings with the Pakistani delegation, headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (Additional Secretary for Western Asia and Afghanistan) Said Ali Asad Gillani. These talks marked a new stage in the development of bilateral relations, emphasizing mutual interest in expanding cooperation in key areas.

During the political consultations, at which the Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Akhmet Gurbanov, the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields were discussed. The sides noted their interest in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties and developing partnerships within international and regional structures.

The diplomats stressed the importance of the activities of the Joint Turkmen-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and expressed interest in holding its next meeting in the near future.

In order to expand trade and economic cooperation, the parties called for the establishment of direct contacts between representatives of the private sector of the two countries. Special attention was paid to improving the legal framework and promoting joint projects in the energy and transport sectors. In this context, the parties discussed in detail the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project.

Separately, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with Said Ali Asad Gillani. The diplomats discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, and also stressed the importance of cooperation in the international political arena. The importance of an active dialogue between the foreign ministries was noted.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working to promote transport and energy connectivity between Turkmenistan, Pakistan and the countries of the region.

The talks in Ashgabat confirmed that Turkmenistan and Pakistan are ready to move from words to deeds, actively working to promote projects that have not only bilateral, but also regional significance.
