Today, in the National Tourist Zone Avaza, talks were held between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The meetings took place in a tête-à-tête format and with the participation of official delegations. This was reported by the Press Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

At the opening of the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes from the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to Shavkat Mirziyoyev. In turn, the President of Uzbekistan congratulated the Turkmen leadership and people on the successful holding of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which took place earlier this month in Avaza.

During the talks, issues related to the further expansion and strengthening of Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership in the context of implementing agreements at the highest level were discussed. The dynamic development of mutually beneficial cooperation across all areas was noted.

Since the beginning of this year, the trade turnover between the two countries has amounted to $700 million. Since February, a free trade regime has been in place, trading houses have opened in the capitals, and joint projects are being implemented in industry, energy, transport, agriculture, water management, and other sectors of the economy. Preparations for the launch of the “Shavat–Dashoguz” trade zone are being completed.

The President of Uzbekistan and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan also discussed preparations for upcoming high-level meetings, emphasizing the importance of productive work of intergovernmental commissions and the Business Council within the framework of cultural events. The agenda of the upcoming Seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State and the practical significance of the current talks in the format “Azerbaijan–Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan” were also discussed.
