As part of the International Investment Forum TIF-2025, which will take place on September 18–19 in Ashgabat, one of the key topics of discussion will be sustainable urban development, with the city of Arkadag presented as a leading example of an environmentally oriented urban project in Central Asia.

Arkadag is the first “smart” city in Turkmenistan and one of the few in Central Asia built entirely from scratch on the basis of modern sustainable development principles. The city was designed with energy-efficient solutions, digital technologies for managing urban infrastructure, and a strong focus on minimizing environmental impact. Automated systems for managing lighting, utilities, transport, and security have been introduced, while renewable energy sources, including solar power generation, are actively used. The city also provides conditions for low-carbon mobility — from electric buses to charging stations.

Arkadag has become an example of implementing the principles of the New Urban Agenda, adopted at the Habitat III conference.

Arkadag is not only a symbol of technological modernization but also demonstrates how investments in “green” infrastructure and innovative approaches to urban planning can contribute to social, economic, and environmental sustainability. During one of the thematic sessions of the forum, a panel discussion will be held with the participation of international experts, representatives of development companies, and financial institutions, where Arkadag’s experience will be considered as a potential model for scaling up at the regional level.

The TIF-2025 Forum will provide participants with a unique opportunity to explore successful examples of integrating sustainable solutions into large infrastructure projects and to discuss prospects for international cooperation in this field.
