Fluffy robot pet Moflin with a unique personality becomes a hit in Japan
In Japan, a fluffy robot pet called Moflin has become a hit. Developed by Casio, this AI-powered robot's popularity stems from its ability to develop a unique personality and habits based on how it's "raised," making it feel like a real living pet.
Moflin can display over four million distinct personality traits. It recognizes its owner, remembers what it likes, and has its own sleep and growth cycles. According to its creators, the robot was designed as a companion for women who need emotional support. The project has been a success, with more than 7,000 units sold between November 2024 and March 2025. It is particularly popular among women in their 30s and 40s.
The robot costs ¥59,400 (around $400). In addition to the device itself, Casio offers extra services, including a special "salon" for cleaning Moflin's fur.
