The Russian company NtechLab, known for its facial recognition systems, is now tackling road issues. In partnership with Rostec, the company has started testing a unique system for monitoring urban infrastructure.

The technology is simple and effective: cameras on public transport (buses, trams) are turned into mobile observation points. As the vehicle moves along its route, a neural network analyzes the video stream in real time to identify:

• Dangerous potholes and cracks

• Missing manhole covers and damaged barriers

• Broken streetlights and damaged road signs

• Overflowing garbage cans and illegal dumps

The system is easy to install and doesn't require significant resources. It will help cities optimize their repair costs and improve public order. According to the developers, this could also reduce the number of accidents caused by poor road conditions. A pilot launch is scheduled for this month in one of Russia's regions. If successful, the technology may be implemented nationwide as part of the "Smart City" program.

Looking ahead, NtechLab plans to teach the system to predict road surface wear and automatically detect accident sites, marking a new stage in the development of "smart cities."
