President of ECOSOC: Together we can change the world for the better

In her address to the participants of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of ECOSOC, which will be held on July 18th in New York, the UN Economic and Social Council's Chairman, Mariya Khatardova, called upon the countries to unite to become a better place to live. "I am convinced that thanks to governments, business representatives and academic institutions participating in this Policy Forum, we will be able to change the current situation in the world for the better," the head of ECOSOC noted in her address. On the forum's fields, the Turkmen side will present the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, which is designed to strengthen political, economic and social stability in Afghanistan and the region as a whole. The forum also provides for an event with the participation of the delegations of the Central Asian countries on the topic of strengthening stability through the achievement of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. This year, during the high-level meeting, issues of providing the population with water resources and rational water use, access to reliable, stable and modern energy sources, as well as environmental issues, including combating desertification, biodiversity conservation, will be considered. The Political Forum will bring together representatives of 193 UN member states and over 50 international organizations. It should be recalled that at the 96th meeting of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan was elected to the membership of ECOSOC for 2019-2021. As the experts note, this opens up new opportunities for strengthening effective partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN in the name of successfully solving the urgent issues of our time, and ensuring economic and social progress not only on a national scale, but also in a regional and global dimension.Aina BERDYEVA
