Iran to discuss development of transport corridors and strengthening regional transit with Turkmenistan
Given its exceptional geographic location at the crossroads of three continents, Iran is prepared to cooperate with neighboring countries in transit as a regional hub.
First Vice President of Iran Mohammad Reza Aref, before his departure for Turkmenistan to attend the Third Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries, stated that Iran is ready to expand cooperation with neighboring and regional nations, thanks to its unique geographical position for transit.
"Iran has good relations with these countries, and the purpose of this trip is to discuss ways to deepen cooperation, especially in the areas of transport and logistics," said Mohammad Reza Aref.
According to the Iranian state news agency IRNA, Mr. Aref noted that Iran can become a reliable regional hub for the 32 landlocked developing countries, eight of which are in the Middle East and Central Asia, due to the country's position at the crossroads of Asia, Europe, and Africa. He added that the development of international transport corridors will benefit all countries in the region.
Mr. Aref intends to discuss these and other issues during his visit to Turkmenistan. He also has scheduled meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the leadership of Turkmenistan, and several other heads of state.
