UN Secretary-General announced the need to develop a Global Vaccination Plan

“COVID-19 continues its merciless march across the world, taking lives and undermining the economy”. With these words, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed the Security Council members. He stressed that the equitable distribution of vaccines is the main moral challenge facing the global community today, the UN Press Office reported. The Secretary-General noted that so far the world population vaccination process can hardly be considered fair and even. “75 percent of all COVID-19 vaccinations to date are in just 10 countries. In the meantime, more than 130 countries have not received a single dose of vaccine”, Guterres said. He stressed that the pandemic aggravates instability and impedes efforts to implement Security Council Resolution 2532 of 1 July 2020 on conflict prevention and settlement, in which the Security Council members demanded a general immediate cessation of hostilities in view of the epidemic. Earlier, in March, the Secretary-General himself called on the world community for a universal ceasefire. The UN Secretary-General notes that armed conflicts distract humanity from the fight against a common enemy - the coronavirus. He stresses that amid a pandemic no one can be protected from disease until everyone is vaccinated. “I am ready to mobilize the entire United Nations system to support these efforts”, the UN Secretary-General said.
