British and Australian scientists have developed an artificial intelligence system that analyzes individual user characteristics and adjusts a brain stimulator to enhance concentration, the University of Surrey said in a press release.

The system uses transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) technology, which activates sodium channels in neurons. The study involved more than 100 volunteers aged 18 to 35. Data collected for AI training included MRI brain scans and physiological parameters of the participants.

Tests showed the system improved concentration by about 10% in people with initially low attention levels—twice the improvement seen with standard tRNS stimulation applied uniformly.

Roy Kadosh, a professor at the University of Surrey, said the technology safely and effectively enhances focus through at-home brain stimulation. Researchers hope such AI stimulators will soon help people better concentrate on work and study by highlighting important tasks amid distractions.
