A new law has come into effect in Russia, extending the validity period of electronic visas for foreign nationals from 60 to 120 days. The maximum permitted stay in the country under this visa has also been increased from 16 to 30 days. The document was published on the official legal information portal.

According to the explanatory note, the initiative aims to simplify entry into Russia for foreign citizens traveling for tourism, business, humanitarian, or private purposes, while maintaining migration control mechanisms and national security requirements.

The law also includes provisions affecting Russian citizens. Birth certificates are no longer recognized as valid identification documents for minors abroad and can no longer be used for exiting Russia. However, minors who had already left the country using such documents before the law came into effect will still be allowed to return.

The legislation also introduces new provisions regarding the crossing of the state border. In certain cases, crossing may be permitted outside official checkpoints, provided there is appropriate authorization from border authorities. Additionally, the powers of the border service have been expanded to include the right to inspect small vessels, vehicles on ice, and personal belongings of individuals crossing the border.
