Social Workers of Turkmenistan Improve Their Qualifications - A Joint Initiative with UNICEF

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Turkmenistan, together with UNICEF, launched a national retraining program for social workers. This initiative is designed to significantly improve professional competencies and the quality of services for children and families in difficult life situations. The program, which started in June and is scheduled to run until December 2025, includes five modules based on a deep theoretical base and many years of experience of UNICEF in Turkmenistan. The training materials have been updated to take into account international and national standards, with an emphasis on interactive teaching methods, such as role-playing games and analysis of practical cases.
The first module, held online in July, has already brought together more than 60 specialists from all over the country: social workers, heads of social institutions and university professors. They studied in depth the theoretical and legal foundations of social work, international and national legislation, ethical principles and standards for the provision of services, practical tools for working with vulnerable groups, including family psychology, child development, crisis intervention, disability issues and the protection of children's rights.
Participants learned how to identify family needs, identify risks, and provide effective support. Two more face-to-face modules are planned for the end of the year, focusing on techniques for working with beneficiaries, planning services, and monitoring family progress.
The main goal of the program is to form a highly qualified and professional social service in Turkmenistan. This will effectively support and protect the most vulnerable segments of the population, contributing to the creation of a fairer and safer society for every child and every family.
