Russian messenger MAX rises to top of App Store and Google Play
The Russian messenger application MAX has rapidly ascended to the top ranks of domestic app stores. According to TASS, since July 19th, the service has secured the first position among free iOS applications in the App Store and has climbed to the second position in the overall ranking of Android applications on Google Play. It has surpassed the popularity of communication giants such as Telegram and WhatsApp.
The developers of MAX have implemented advanced solutions to create the messenger, including:
• Enhanced Communication: Audio calls utilize NoLACE technology, which enables the reconstruction of phrases even under poor internet connectivity, while video calls maintain stability with weak signals.
• Complimentary AI Assistant: The integrated GigaChat 2.0 possesses capabilities for text generation, image creation, audio transcription, and video analysis.
• Large File Transfers and Payments: Users are able to transmit files up to 4 GB and conduct financial transfers via the Fast Payment System (SBP) directly within chats. Currently, this feature supports VTB and Alfa-Bank.
• Service Platform: A system of mini-applications and a chatbot constructor empowers developers to create financial services, product catalogs, and support services without requiring programming.
Commencing September 2025, MAX will be pre-installed on all new smartphones in Russia. Plans are underway for its integration with "Gosuslugi" (Public Services Portal) to enable the messenger's use as a digital identity document (e.g., for age verification), for fine payments, and for accessing state services.
The messenger demonstrates rapid growth, with over one million registered users by the end of June, and this number exceeding two million in early July. Within a few weeks, 14 million messages have been sent, and over 420,000 calls have been made. On the App Store, the application has garnered over 54,000 reviews, maintaining an average rating of 4.2 stars.
MAX is available for registration to users with Russian and Belarusian phone numbers. The application operates across iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and via a web interface, distributed through the App Store, Google Play, RuStore, and AppGallery.
