Number of Turkmen students in Astrakhan Region reaches three thousand
Turkmen citizens constitute the largest contingent of international students enrolled in educational institutions within the Astrakhan Region. This information was conveyed during a working meeting between Mr. Vladimir Golovkov, Minister of External Relations for the Astrakhan Region, and Mr. Gadam Ilamanov, Consul of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan.
By the conclusion of the 2024/2025 academic year, the number of students from Turkmenistan in the region increased by 60%, reaching approximately 3,000 individuals. Many of these students actively participate in the Astrakhan Region International Friendship Club, which operates under the auspices of the "Kosa" youth center. Collaborative initiatives include the "I Know Russia" international quiz, the "Singing with the Whole World" musical program, the "Our Pushkin" intimate concert, and an exhibition of national cultures dedicated to Russia Day.
In total, over 7,000 international students from 73 countries are currently studying in the Astrakhan Region. Following Turkmenistan, the largest numbers of students are from Kazakhstan (approximately 1,000 individuals) and Morocco (over 800 individuals).
