This June in Ashgabat proved to be the coolest in the past 16 years. The average monthly temperature in the capital was +29.5°C, which is only slightly – by 0.1°C – below the climatic norm.

In recent years, against the backdrop of global climate change and a particularly warm past decade, the average monthly temperature in June has consistently exceeded the norm (according to data from 1991–2020, it is +29.6°C). Since 2013, June temperatures have not fallen below +30°C, and the last time the value was below normal was in 2009, when the average monthly temperature reached +28.5°C.

The hottest Junes during this period were in 2015, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, when the average temperature exceeded +31°C. In June 2015, an absolute maximum for the entire observation period was also recorded: +47.2°C.

Interestingly, May of this year, conversely, became the warmest May in the history of meteorological observations in Ashgabat (+27.1°C), while April was the second warmest.

Throughout June, the weather was characterized by variability: short periods of heat were replaced by longer days with temperatures around or slightly below the norm. This was attributed to the influence of thermal depressions during north-westerly incursions and the arrival of less warmed air masses along the southern and south-western periphery of anticyclones, whose centers were located over Kazakhstan, as reported by Meteozhurnal.

The maximum temperature of the month was recorded on June 16th (+41.6°C), and the minimum on June 9th (+16°C). In June, there were 4 days with temperatures above +40°C and only one day when the thermometer rose above +41°C.

June 8th notably stands out as the coolest June day since 2023: the average daily temperature was almost 10°C below normal, and the daytime maximum reached only +19°C. On this day, a reverse course of daily temperature, rare for summer in Ashgabat, was also observed.

The total precipitation for the month was 7.7 mm, which corresponds to the average monthly norm.
