The Mejlis of Turkmenistan has adopted a new Law "On the Unified State Register of Voters" a significant step in enhancing the nation's electoral system. Developed in close collaboration with the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums, this law marks a crucial move towards the digital transformation of processes related to citizens' electoral rights.

The primary objective of the new law is to establish a centralized digital information system to ensure reliable state accounting of citizens eligible to vote. The Unified State Register of Voters will serve as a platform for storing, processing, and utilizing accurate and comprehensive information about citizens entitled to participate in elections and referendums.

The law clearly defines all key concepts related to the register's operation, ensuring the system's full transparency and clarity. These include the database, voters' personal data, electoral address, register management bodies, and groups responsible for system maintenance and operation.

Additionally, the law outlines rules for data storage and updates, personal data protection, procedures for data provision, and mechanisms for appealing decisions or actions of the bodies responsible for maintaining the register.

The adoption of this law aligns with the provisions of the "Concept for the Development of the Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2019-2025" and the "State Program for the Development of the Digital Economy for 2021-2025". The creation of the Unified State Register of Voters will enable Turkmenistan to form a robust digital foundation for conducting elections that meet international standards.
