A new study by University of Nottingham scientists, published in Tech Xplore, has confirmed the revolutionary effectiveness of laser trackers for industrial robots. These devices not only dramatically increase positioning accuracy but also contribute to reducing operational costs for businesses.

Researchers determined that laser trackers provide precise three-dimensional positioning of a robot's manipulator arm, which is critically important for machines that have undergone mechanical modifications to enhance their motor sensitivity (the ability to move over minimal distances).

Experimental trials demonstrated an 82% improvement in positioning accuracy compared to traditional controllers. This offers businesses advantages such as extending the lifespan of older robots, reducing manufacturing defects, and achieving cost savings.

The study's authors note that robots equipped with laser trackers will be particularly beneficial in areas such as cargo transportation, inspection and measurement procedures, and additive manufacturing (3D printing).
