Aviation industry leader, Boeing company has presented powerful autonomous pilotless vehicle capable to transport up to 227 kilograms as payload. This drone or quadrocopter, can be used as transport vehicle for heavy cargo delivery in future. According to Boeing, the vehicle was designed and built just in three months. Recently, it was tested at a Boeing autonomous research laboratory in St Charles, Missouri. Officially, the quadrocopter is called an electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) cargo air vehicle (CAV) prototype. It resembles the average drone with length of 4.6 meters, 5.5 meters in width and 1.2 meter tall. It is equipped with eight counter-rotating propeller blades and custom Boeing batteries that allow for vertical flight. The cargo is fastened to the drone with ropes. The technology opens up new opportunities for delivering time-sensitive and high-value goods, conducting autonomous missions in remote or dangerous environments, and other applications, says company’s press release.
