Berdimuhamedov inspects construction of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway

Today, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working trip around the capital, during which inspected the construction of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway. Construction of 600-kilometer Ashgabat-Turkmenabad highway will considerably increase throughput capacity of road system of the country, and, as part of the international multimodal system, contribute to the growth of transit cargo traffic. It will give direct exit of cargo flows to International Port on Caspian Sea and farther by sea to Caucasus, Europe, South of Russia, to the north of Iran, Persian and Oman Gulfs after connection with Ashgabat- Turkmenbashy highway. The project is being implemented by the Turkmen Türkmen-Awtoban CJSV, a member of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the country, which has a number of local subcontractors. The first part of the highway Ashgabat-Tejen will be opened this year, the second section, Tejen-Mary to be commissioned by the end of 2022 and the third, from Mary to Turkmenabat – in 2023. The width of the road will be 34.5 meters (three main and one auxiliary on each side of the road). The route will start from the intersection, which will be built at the 24th kilometer of Ashgabat-Dashoguz road. Payment terminals, which will provide electronic payments, traffic control services etc. will be located at the same place. It is planned to build special stations for necessary maintenance of the highway. The traffic will be controlled by special system of video surveillance, which will collect, store and transfer all data of the traffic to traffic control service. The project provides for construction of gas stations, retail outlets, driver’s rest areas and many other facilities. Bridges, crossings, etc. will also be built along the highway. There are will be e-payment system; while foreign drivers will pay in foreign currency. The heads of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and other relevant agencies have reported to the President on work carried out and their next stage. The Head of state has instructed on further implementation of the highway project and development of the transport industry in general, having noted the importance to master and implement the best world experience and innovative technologies in this area. In addition, the President has highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation with relevant international agencies – the International Road Transport Union, the TRASEKA European Union Cooperation Program, etc.
