Russia and Turkmenistan discuss development of automobile freight transportation

The Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Roman Starovoit, and the Head of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Mammethan Chakyyev, held a videoconference during which they discussed prospects for expanding international transport cooperation. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

The central topic of the meeting was the development of automobile freight transportation and the increase of its volumes with the participation of Russian companies. Both sides expressed interest in the modernization and harmonization of the infrastructure of the international transport corridor "North – South" which is considered a strategically important direction for the countries of the region.

Particular attention during the negotiations was paid to the initiative to create a unified railway operator for the ITC "North – South". According to the Russian side, the project has already received support from Kazakhstan and Iran. Russia invited Turkmenistan to join this initiative, which could contribute to the deepening of integration and the optimization of logistics processes within the corridor.

The parties emphasized the importance of coordinated actions to improve the efficiency of regional transport routes and agreed to continue the dialogue at the expert level.
