Afghanistan’s national power company, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), held a technical meeting on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) Transmission Project, which brought together representatives from key Afghan ministries, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Economy, Industry and Trade, Energy and Water.

During the meeting, DABS CEO Abdul Bari Omar highlighted the regional significance of the TAP project noting the need for “full transparency and national consensus” in implementing such critical infrastructure initiatives.

The discussions focused on reviewing previous agreements, developing a roadmap, refining action plan items and planning follow-up meetings on the transnational energy project, Bakhtar news reported.

Once the TAP project is completed, Afghanistan will be able to receive about 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Turkmenistan and transmit it to Pakistan. The energy injection is expected to significantly boost domestic industrial development and expand access to electricity across the country, the publication notes. The report clarifies that the meeting was convened at the direction of the Afghan Prime Minister's Office, reflecting the country's priority focus on regional energy cooperation.
