An informal summit of the heads of state of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG) was held in the Hungarian capital Budapest on May 20-21. The OTG is an international organization that unites Turkic states with the aim of comprehensive cooperation and collaboration between them. Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan are full members. Hungary and Turkmenistan are participating as observer countries.

The heads of state participating in the informal meeting held talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Thus, following the talks between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his Hungarian counterpart, the parties agreed to raise the level of relations between the two countries to an expanded strategic partnership. As reported by the Anadolu agency, Mirziyoyev and Orban emphasized the importance of further developing trade and economic ties in order to increase bilateral trade turnover to 500 million euros at the first stage, and also agreed to expand cooperation in the banking and financial sectors.

The creation of a special industrial zone for European enterprises in Uzbekistan with the participation of Hungarian companies was discussed. An agreement was reached on the preparation and approval of an investment program at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Mixed Economic Commission, which will be held in Budapest in July. The leaders agreed to resume the activities of the Uzbekistan-Hungary Business Council and hold an expanded meeting with the participation of business representatives in the near future.

At a meeting in Budapest with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban emphasized that the holding of this event by his country, as a state with observer status in the Organization of Turkic States, is further evidence of Hungary's commitment to cooperation within the organization. As noted in a message on the official website of the President of Azerbaijan, during the conversation, satisfaction was expressed with the development of cooperation in the fields of energy, investment, pharmaceuticals, food industry and other areas. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan and Hungary are states pursuing independent policies at the international level based on the national interests of their countries.
