New gas compressor station to ensure reliable supplies of Turkmen gas to China
A new gas compressor station was put into operation today at the Turkmen Malay gasfield, which is one of the sources of natural gas supplies to the Turkmenistan-China pipeline.
It is located 70 kilometers away from the city of Turkmenabat, in the Lebap region, which has large reserves of oil and gas.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who arrived at the scene by helicopter, took part in the opening ceremony of a new infrastructure facility for the country's oil and gas industry.
The head of state cut the ribbon and addressed the audience. The President said that the presence of giant hydrocarbon deposits and cooperation on their development with foreign investors contributed to the advancement of Turkmenistan's position as one of the energy powers.
Carrying out a lot of work to diversify natural gas exports to world markets, the country seeks to use its enormous wealth and resources in order to strengthen peace and prosperity, the Turkmen leader stressed.
Despite the difficult situation in the world today, large social and industrial facilities continue to be built and opened in stable Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted, adding that special importance is attached to innovative solutions and environmental standards during their construction.
The new gas compressor station with a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year is also based on advanced technologies. Its entire complex of installations and workshops occupies 12 hectares.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov pressed the start button on the touch panel, putting the production into operation.
In the implementation of this project, State Concern "Turkmengaz" partnered with the British company Petro Gas LLP and the leading supplier of gas compressor equipment - the French Dresser-Rand S.A.
The opening ceremony of the new oil and gas infrastructure was attended by members of the government and other leaders, as well as the new Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Turkmenistan Qian Naicheng and General Director of CNPC International Turkmenistan Li Shulian.
