TULM launches first container train shipment of wheat to the UAE
On May 18, 2025, with the support of the Open Joint Stock Company "Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan" and the Joint Stock Company "KTZ Express" (Kazakhstan Railways), the first trial container train carrying wheat arrived in Turkmenistan from the Zayatay railway station in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The train, consisting of 62 containers (40 feet each), crossed the border at the Serhetýaka checkpoint.
At the Etrek station, transshipment operations were carried out — the grain was transferred from wagons operating in CIS countries to Iranian railcars. The train then continued on to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, where the cargo was loaded onto sea vessels and shipped to one of the largest ports in the United Arab Emirates — Jebel Ali.
It is noteworthy that this shipment was organized for the first time by a Turkmen enterprise, marking an important step in the development of multimodal routes in the region.
