Secretary General of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries believes that Turkmenistan can join the organization

Turkmenistan, the largest exporter of "blue fuel" in the Central Asian region, can become a member of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). This is the opinion of the Forum's Secretary General, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Yury Sentyurin. In his opinion, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Angola can also join the ranks of the organization. The Secretary General of the "gas OPEC" also explained that in order to join the gas organization, the state should have the status of a net exporter of natural gas. That is, the export of gas should exceed its import. Sentyurin believes that, thanks to this criterion, the Forum can take consolidated decisions on topical energy problems of the international level. Sellers of "blue fuel" organized the Forum in 2001 in Tehran, and legally formalized its creation in 2008 in Moscow. Members of the organization are 12 countries, including such large producers of "blue fuel" as Russia, Algeria, Qatar, Iran, Libya, the United Arab Emirates and others. These states produce more than 40% of the world's blue fuel, and also own 70% of its world reserves. The Forum's headquarter is located in the capital of Qatar, Doha. Turkmenistan, which is one of the largest players on the world gas market, is one of the world's top four fuel reserves, along with Russia, Iran and Qatar.
