The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the head of the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amir Khan Muttaqi, held online talks this week to review the progress of key regional infrastructure projects, with particular emphasis on accelerating the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline.

In a statement released by the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was reported that the parties explored ways to strengthen political and economic ties between the two countries. Discussions also covered diplomatic engagement and the promotion of joint initiatives, notably the TAPI pipeline, which is intended to transport Turkmen natural gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India.

Muttaqi described the relations between the two countries as "stronger than ever" and stated that the current regional environment is conducive to the expansion of bilateral cooperation. He reaffirmed the Taliban's commitment to major regional development projects.

According to a press release, Minister Meredov welcomed the latest developments related to the TAPI project and outlined Turkmenistan's plans to strengthen cooperation in areas such as railway construction, trade, and regional transit. He also pledged to facilitate visa procedures for Afghan traders in the near future.

Both foreign ministers agreed to continue high-level consultations aimed at accelerating the implementation of the TAPI pipeline project, expanding railway connections, improving electricity transmission, and deepening overall economic cooperation.
