On April 25-26, 2025, the delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by the Minister of Culture, Atageldi Shamyradov, visited the city of Erzurum in the Republic of Turkey to participate in the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on Tourism.

The agenda of the meeting included important issues aimed at the development and strengthening of cooperation in the tourism sector among the ECO member states. 1 In his address at the meeting, Minister of Culture A. Shamyradov noted that tourism holds strategic importance for Turkmenistan, which possesses key resources: unique natural potential with a favorable ecology and a rich spiritual and cultural heritage, the preservation of which is given priority attention by the state. 2 Furthermore, it was stated that, being one of the most dynamic sectors of the country's economic development, tourism in modern Turkmenistan represents a significant source of job creation, a powerful catalyst for socio-economic progress and international cooperation.

It is worth noting that the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the ECO on Tourism in Erzurum became an important platform for the exchange of experience, discussion of topical issues, and determination of priorities for further cooperation in order to develop a sustainable and prosperous tourism sector in the ECO region. During the visit, the Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan, A. Shamyradov, held a series of bilateral meetings. 3 Thus, during a meeting with the Secretary General of the ECO, Asad Majid Khan, the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in the field of tourism, meeting mutual interests, were discussed. 4 In addition, a meeting was held between the Turkmen delegation and the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri. During the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to actively develop tourism between the two countries, in particular through the participation of representatives of tourism companies from both countries in exhibitions held in Turkmenistan and Iran. 5 Minister A. Shamyradov also held a meeting with the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy. At the meeting, the parties considered issues of further development of Turkmen-Turkish relations and the expansion of cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian, and tourism spheres.
