Learning to live cashless
Recently, the expression “cashless society” becomes very popular all around the world. Indeed, today, cash use becomes more and more unhandy: it is necessary to save it somewhere, re-count it, take bundles of banknotes while traveling, and take care about their safety… At present, the majority of countries use plastic cards for payment transactions that results in decreasing cash payments. For example, according to the Bank for International Settlements, Switzerland, cash use makes up only three percent of the total volume of payments. Almost in all cities in Switzerland, one cannot pay public transport passage by cash: the passages are purchased through SMS. In Turkmenistan, non-cash transactions are made through the payment system of the Central Bank and intrabank payment systems. According to the State Committee for Statistics of Turkmenistan, 2004.6 thousand of bank cards have been registered in the processing centre as of June 1, 2016 and their number has increased by 295,000 cards within five months. All credit institutions transfer salaries of employees, serviced enterprises to bank cards, and special equipment should be installed in trade and service enterprises to effect non-cash payments. The share of international cards in non-cash payments is expanding, and operations for the use of these cards are being improved. As of June 1, 2017, the share of international cards made up 11.2% of the total number of acting cards. Establishment of a modern and efficient payment system in Turkmenistan that allows the citizens of the country and foreign guests to make payments without delay is especially important on the eve of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which will be held in Ashgabat this September. It is expected that the Games will gather together over 8,000 guests from 70 countries in the Turkmen capital.
