CIS Executive Committee: Turkmenistan’s strategy deserves universal recognition
“We see firsthand Turkmenistan’s aspiration to build interstate relations based on the principles of good neighborliness, equality, and respect for mutual interests,” said Sergey Lebedev, Chairman of the Executive Committee and CIS Executive Secretary. His speech was broadcasted at an international conference held today in Ashgabat on the significance of the policy of neutrality in ensuring international peace, security and sustainable development. Being an associate member of the CIS, Turkmenistan has established itself as an active participant in many programs within the Commonwealth, Mr. Lebedev said. He noted the special relevance of such important documents developed on the personal initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as the Declaration on Strategic and Economic Cooperation of the CIS states and the Action Program for Enhancing Partnership between Foreign Ministries. Among other things, Mr. Lebedev highlighted the work carried out by neutral Turkmenistan together with the Commonwealth countries to perpetuate the memory of those who died during the war, preserve the military memorial heritage, and create a sense of pride in the joint Great Victory and respect for the heroic traditions of the CIS peoples in young citizens of our states. “In this regard, the solemn military parade held on May 9, 2020 in Ashgabat in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War is of special historical importance,” said the CIS Executive Secretary. In his opinion, in the modern world, in the current turbulence of international relations, Turkmenistan’s strategy, based on the principles of neutrality and aimed at resolving disputes and contradictions in global affairs by political and diplomatic means, deserves universal recognition and respect.
