Wonder shower of Swedish inventor bathes with five liters of water

Six years ago, a former NASA employee, Swedish engineer Mehrdad Mahdjoubi invented a unique super-economical shower, for which he became finalist for the European Inventor Award 2018. In an innovative shower system called Oas (from Swedish – oasis), water is supplied through a wide high-pressure spray. And the used water is cleaned with a special two-layer filter - micron filter removes large pollutants (such as hair and other dirt), and UV filter neutralizes microorganisms in the water, including bacteria and viruses. Moreover, the water quality is monitored by built-in sensors. Any water too contaminated to be purified is automatically flushed out and water removed by the system or splashed from the shower is automatically replaced. Thus, the showerhead is constantly supplied with completely sterilized water, even cleaner than tap water, that was confirmed by laboratory tests of the Swedish Institute for Communicable Disease Control. At the same time, only 5 liters of water circulates in a closed-loop system. The figures are impressively small, given that a ten-minute water procedure leaks 100 liters or more than 160 liters from those who prefers idle standing under a hot flush. At the moment, Mahdjoubi’s start-up company "Orbital Systems" produces annually about a thousand units of this shower device, which since its launch four years ago has already saved 12 million liters of water. Oas, which is the only product of its kind in the market, is quite expensive and is sold at a price of EUR 3,000. However, inventor hopes that the system’s price could drop to EUR 500. The benefits of Oas are obvious and undeniable. Such showers can be very advantageous in terms of energy and water consumption in medical institutions, fitness clubs and in arid areas. According to the UN, water scarcity to various degrees currently impacts more than two billion people, or almost a quarter of the world's population.
