The city of Chengdu, the administrative center of Sichuan Province in southwestern China, has launched the first freight train for the export of used cars to Central Asian countries.

This significant step was implemented on March 12, 2025, when a train loaded with used cars departed from the Chengdu International Railway Port to the capital of Uzbekistan, the city of Tashkent. The train is expected to cross the border at the Khorgos checkpoint in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, pass through the Almaty in Kazakhstan, and arrive in Tashkent in 12 days.

The launch of this route will significantly reduce transportation time, by more than a third compared to road transport, and reduce the risks of cargo loss.

Chengdu is one of the first cities in China to engage in the export of used cars. In 2024, the Shuangliu used car base, from which the first train departed, exported more than 6,000 cars, and the export trade volume approached 1 billion yuan.

In the next two years, the volume of used car exports to Central Asian countries is expected to grow by more than 30% annually.
