Ashgabat discussed the role of women in diplomacy and peacebuilding
“Women in diplomacy play a crucial role in promoting international cooperation, peace and sustainable development,” Dmitry Shlapachenko, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan said, opening a panel discussion titled “Modern Diplomacy: Dialogue with Women Leaders” at the UN House in Ashgabat. The meeting was organized by the United Nations Country Office in Turkmenistan to mark International Women’s Day. The event brought together women leaders in diplomacy, NGO representatives, women entrepreneurs and youth to highlight the role of women in diplomacy, peacebuilding and leadership.
The panelists included UNICEF Representative Jalpa Ratna, EU Ambassador Beata Peksa, Indian Ambassador Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO Chinar Rustamova and Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Gulshat Yusupova.
The discussion covered topics such as career paths in diplomacy, overcoming challenges in leadership, and the role of women in peacebuilding. Participants shared their experiences, challenges, and successes, inspiring young women to pursue careers in international relations and diplomacy. The event highlighted the importance of gender equality in leadership and the collective efforts needed to build a more inclusive, sustainable, and peaceful future.
