Kazakhstan plans to increase cargo transportation via the Trans-Caspian Corridor
The Trans-Caspian Corridor, connecting Kazakhstan with Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia, has become a crucial element of international logistics and freight transportation. In 2023, the volume of cargo transported via this corridor increased to 4.5 million tons, a 62% rise compared to the previous year. Kazakhstan intends to increase this volume to 10 million tons annually by 2027.
According to Kazinform, citing the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Murat Nurtleu, this decision stems from the strategic need to enhance transport infrastructure and boost the region's competitiveness on the international stage. A significant role in this process is played by the joint Kazakh-Azerbaijani venture, "Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd" which manages and optimizes logistical operations.
Additionally, Kazakhstan is actively pursuing the digitalization of transport processes, including the integration of IT systems to streamline customs procedures and improve transportation efficiency. Within the framework of this initiative, agreements have already been signed with China to develop container transportation, further contributing to the increase in cargo flow. Consequently, the Trans-Caspian Corridor is emerging as a pivotal link in the international supply chain, connecting East and West.
