The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has accepted Thomas Bach's resignation as president of the organization.

The decision will come into effect after June 23, when the powers will be transferred to the new head of the IOC.

The election of the new head of the organization will be held as part of the IOC session from March 18 to 21, 2025. The event will be held in Athens (Greece). Seven people are vying for the post of IOC head. The list includes: Faisal Al-Hussein (Jordan), Sebastian Coe (Great Britain), Kirsty Coventry (Zimbabwe), Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. (Spain), Johan Elias (Sweden), David Lapartian (France), Morinari Watanabe (Japan). Bach said that he will not seek re-election for another term.

In August 2024, Thomas Bach announced that he would step down at the end of his term. He led the IOC for more than 10 years, since 2013.
