This month, universities across China have commenced the launch of artificial intelligence (AI) courses based on the technologies of the Chinese startup DeepSeek.

This move has been characterized as a "Sputnik moment" for China, underscoring the significance of DeepSeek's achievements in the field of AI. The startup, headquartered in Hangzhou, has received high praise from Silicon Valley experts, who assert that its DeepSeek-V3 and DeepSeek-R1 models are comparable to the cutting-edge developments of companies such as OpenAI and Meta.

Shenzhen University has announced the launch of a course that will cover key technologies, as well as issues of security, privacy, and ethics. Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have also begun implementing DeepSeek-based courses. These initiatives align with China's national strategy to build a "strong educational nation" by 2035, aimed at improving educational quality and accessibility.

The founder of DeepSeek, Liang Wenfeng, recently met with Xi Jinping and other leaders of the technology sector, highlighting the startup's importance in the context of China's economy and technology.
