Belarus has been granted observer status in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA). This decision was made at the organization's 15th plenary session, which concluded in Baku, as reported by BELTA.

According to Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs and National Security, the official application for observer status in this organization was submitted in October 2024. The application received positive consideration from all member states of the organization.

The Assembly was held under the motto "The Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in Strengthening International Cooperation" reflecting the commitment of all member and observer countries (currently around 60) to develop and enhance multilateral cooperation, promote regional and global security, ensure sustainable development, and address pressing issues on the international agenda" he emphasized.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) was established in 2006 to coordinate the efforts of national parliaments in addressing contemporary challenges, including by enhancing the parliamentary role in ensuring peace in Asia. The Assembly serves as a tool for inter-parliamentary dialogue in the region, with its activities focused on developing a collective strategy to ensure security and stability in Asia.
