German expert: Turkmenistan shows a good example of healthcare development
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Klaus Parofer, Professor at the Grosshadern University Hospital in Munich (Germany), on Friday, November 27.
On behalf of the German medical professionals who have long and fruitfully cooperated with their Turkmen colleagues as part of the program to strengthen the human resources in the healthcare system of Turkmenistan, Dr. Parhofer expressed gratitude to the Turkmen leader for the trust and willingness to continue sharing experience and best practices.
The head of state also specified the effectiveness of cooperation between the two countries in the field of medicine, which is guided today by innovative methods and practices. Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan was guided by the German model in creating the national health system.
Discussing development of partnership, the President and his guest emphasized the importance of bilateral online conferences and collegiate meetings, expanding relations in the field of higher medical education.
The Turkmen leader and the German professor exchanged views on the relevance of medical diplomacy in the modern world, amid a backdrop of the universal fight against the coronavirus pandemic. As was noted in this regard, Turkmenistan promptly took systemic measures to prevent the emergence and spread of the disease in the country.
- I am very glad to have the opportunity to come to Turkmenistan once again, despite the pandemic. I also welcome the opportunity to further contribute to development of the Turkmen healthcare system, Klaus Parhofer said in an interview with ORIENT after the audience with the President, sharing the content of the conversation.
- Over the past 17 years, during which I have been regularly coming to your country, I have witnessed what rapid and grandiose changes for the better have taken place in Turkmen medicine. Health services in Turkmenistan have gained an accelerated development pace: many modern clinics have been opened; the country’s leadership has made huge investments in development of medicine and specialized education. I am sure that this is the right way, because it is necessary not only to build medical institutions, but also to train highly professional personnel who will work there, the German expert emphasized.
He also added that all benefit from such mutually advantageous cooperation: not only the Turkmens learn from the Germans, but also the German medical professionals learn from their Turkmen colleagues.
- I think people can always learn something new from others. Turkmenistan is a good example of how to develop national health services, Parhofer concluded.
