In the city of Farap, Charjev etrap, Lebap velayat of Turkmenistan, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) course on training instructors for dog handlers of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan has opened. The five-day training is attended by 24 people, including border guards, dog handlers, veterinarians and dog breeding specialists.

This course is organized in close partnership with the Border Management Assistance Program in Central Asia and Afghanistan (BOMCA-10), funded by the European Union. It is the last of five courses held in all velayats of Turkmenistan.

To conduct a series of courses, the OSCE Center in Ashgabat invited two certified national expert dog handlers and a national veterinary dog handler.

The training course will provide in-depth knowledge of service dog skills, dog handling techniques and dog training strategies.

Participants were also presented with a training manual on dog training, developed by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat in partnership with dog handling specialists from Turkmenistan. The guide, based on specific scenarios, is intended to provide instructors, trainers and dog owners with a common program of basic training and care for service dogs.

Together with experts, participants will discuss issues of maintaining the proper physical and emotional state of service dogs, providing first aid and ensuring appropriate care for dogs.
