Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in Seoul has discussed strengthening Turkmen-Korean cooperation in science and education. During a meeting between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea, Begench Durdyyev, and the President of SKKU, Yu Ji-bom, they discussed expanding academic interaction, increasing the quota for Turkmen students, and providing scholarships. Special attention was paid to expanding cooperation with the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology of Turkmenistan and the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management.

President Yu Ji-bom confirmed SKKU's commitment to strengthening ties with Turkmenistan and expressed readiness to provide scholarships for Master's programs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to Turkmen students who have excelled in applied sciences.

Ambassador Durdyev also proposed introducing Turkmen language courses at SKKU. He believes this will contribute to expanding students' linguistic and cultural competencies and enriching the academic environment.

During the meeting, the diplomat familiarized the participants with the foreign policy initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan, in particular, the declaration of 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust" by the UN General Assembly Resolution and the international events planned to be held in Turkmenistan and abroad in honor of the 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality.

SKKU is the oldest university in Korea, dating back to the founding of the Confucian academy Sungkyunkwan in 1398. It was transformed into a modern university in 1895. In 1946, after Korea gained independence, Sungkyunkwan was revived with funds from Confucianists around the world.
