CA and EU foreign ministers held an online meeting
A regular ministerial meeting “Central Asia - European Union” was held online on November 17. The video forum was attended by the Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, Vice President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for International Cooperation Jutta Urpilainen.
Security and stability in Central Asia and neighboring regions was one of the main topics during the online meeting. Representatives of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan pointed out the need for joint efforts to address the emerging crisis situations, and called for the most serious attention to the climate change problem.
The event participants representing Central Asia and the European Union expressed their readiness to expand contacts in the fields of education, science, culture, technology and innovation, and in combating the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, especially in view of all opportunities for such an expansion.
The 16th ministerial meeting “Central Asia - European Union” ended with the adoption of a Joint Communiqué, in which the importance of a number of Turkmenistan’s initiatives was emphasized, such as the holding of the International Conference “Policy of Neutrality and its Role in Ensuring International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development” in Ashgabat on December 12, and the organization of the High-Level Forum in 2021, dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by the resolution of the UN General Assembly on the proposal of the Turkmen party.
