House warming parties in modern houses, or Horseshoe for happiness

Today in the capital the opening ceremony of new apartment houses which accompanied by performances of actors of folklore groups was held and it by tradition turned into a real holiday. In the artistic setting, the basis of which were national ceremonies, ancient traditions and their inseparable link with today were brightly reflected.
Like any important event in life of Turkmen, a house warming party has its traditions and ceremonies; it is usually marked together with other national celebrations. The word "house warming" does not only mean settlement in a new place, but also festivals on that occasion. So it was held so in the antiquity – a new house and settlement in it were a great joy which was magnificently celebrated.
Any action does not pass in any Turkmen family without bread and salt, preparations of tasty national dishes. Also the major part of house warming - tradition to give to new settlers gifts. And the best variant of Turkmens for this case the horseshoe is considered. By beliefs if horseshoe is hang over the entrance door it will protect this house and its tenants against the evil eye. It was a talisman of fortunate and wealth symbol.
Turkmens took a serious approach to the matter of choice of a gift, after all it is important to present such gift, which nobody else has given yet and which will be useful. It could be both cattle, and house utensils, and carpets, oriental carpets, etc.
But now surprising vital force of ancient traditions finds other features. Progress has made the changes, both to ceremonies and gifts which, unlike past times, became modern and technological.
And as to ancient traditional dwellings of nomads traditional yurtas have replaced for a long time with many-storeyed houses. The modern habitation constructed according to all quality standards, provides to new settlers comfort, practicality and cosiness.
