The pistachios of Badkhyz and other natural habitats of this valuable plant in Turkmenistan are actively forming the nuts. Fruits gain weight, which by the end of August - September ripen into delicious nuts. The flowering period of the natural pistachios has ended together with the last days of spring. Their area in Badkhyz, Karabil, Koitendag and Kopetdag is 75 thousand hectares. Pistachio is a perspective view for the natural gardening of the giant expanses of the Turkmen mountains as a cultural plant. Pistachio nuts are one of the most valuable. In the past, pistachio grew in the middle and lower belt of the Kopetdag mountains almost everywhere. Now there is every opportunity to restore its arrays. Especially, domestic foresters have worked out a successful experience of returning this plant to nature. Fertilizing artificial plantings have already been established in a number of former habitats, for example, on Mount Dushakerikdag and other localities.Batyr YUZBASHEV
During the research this plant was successfully cultivated on takyrs of the Karakum. And exclusively due to local surface runoff. This opens up to the amazing tree vast expanses of the desert.
Pistachio is ideally suited to the Turkmen climate, managing to find significant amounts of moisture in dry soil. All because in the first year its root goes to the soil at a meter and a half - straight to the aquifers. In the future, the root system covers significant spaces. If on the surface the trees are located at a distance from each other, without touching the crowns, then under the ground their roots are closely adjacent.
The country's natural pistachios are a valuable gene pool. Scientists, combining the properties of wild-growing and cultivated pistachios, are working on the creation of stable large-fruited forms with high saturation of nuts. Further, the product of Turkmen breeders has everything possible to occupy vast untapped areas and to ensure the production of valuable nut on a production scale.
