Turkmenistan is elected as a member of the UN Economic and Social Council for 2019-2021


Turkmenistan has been elected as a member of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2019-2021. This decision was made during the 96th meeting of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. According to political analysts, it testifies to the high international prestige of the Turkmen state and the support by the world community of foreign policy pursued by Turkmenistan. At present, Turkmenistan’s traditional cooperation with the UN is reaching a qualitatively new level of development. The voice of Turkmenistan sounds clearly and firmly in the United Nations and other international organizations, and an increasing number of states listen to it, as the policy of Turkmenistan contributes to solving of urgent problems of the present and to expanding international cooperation in various fields. Thus, Ashgabat put forward a number of important initiatives in the field of disarmament, hydrocarbon exports, transport, ecology, sports and others. A number of Turkmen initiatives have already issued as resolutions of the UN General Assembly, while the world community actively discusses other initiatives. According to experts, UN members vote for the candidacy of Turkmenistan in elections to important UN bodies in order to maximize the effectiveness of Ashgabat’s initiatives in addressing global issues of sustainable development.
