Tashkent has transferred the title of Youth Capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to the city of Gabala in Azerbaijan.

According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, the transfer of this prestigious status took place during the closing ceremony of the international project "Tashkent – CIS Youth Capital 2024", held in Uzbekistan.

Halmurat Rashidov, Deputy Director of the Department for Cooperation in Political, Humanitarian, and Social Spheres of the CIS Executive Committee, presented a Certificate of Merit from the CIS Executive Committee to Alisher Sadullaev, Director of the Agency for Youth Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, for his personal contribution to the project's implementation in Tashkent and the development of international youth cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The international project "CIS Youth Capital" was adopted by the heads of government in May 2022 to involve young people in the implementation of programs for sustainable development in all areas of interstate relations.

The project will be implemented successively in the CIS countries in Russian alphabetical order of the countries' names. The city receiving the Youth Capital status is granted the right to host a meeting of the Youth Affairs Council and the Forum of Youth Public Organizations of the CIS member states.

According to the decision of the CIS Council of Heads of Government, the city of Kapan (Armenia) will hold the status of CIS Youth Capital in 2026.
